Stacked for Connection

Carved from wood in simple, stacked forms, Kokeshi were originally given as tokens of friendship, protection, and remembrance—passed from hand to hand as quiet guardians. This design pays homage to a folk tradition that spans generations in Japan.

Reimagined for modern life, the form invites touch and evokes a gentle nostalgia. Like the dolls, its silhouette is meant to be held. A tribute to memory and connection.

Tokens of Affection

Kokeshi dolls originated in Japan’s Tōhoku region during the Edo period, first crafted by artisans as simple wooden toys and tokens of affection. Made from lathe-turned wood with hand-painted features, their minimalist forms were traditionally sold in hot spring towns. Kokeshi were souvenirs of comfort and care. Over time, they became symbols of regional identity and folk artistry, passed down through generations.

For those drawn to the originals, vintage Kokeshi can still be found—each one a character, a story.
